About this solution
A tyre killer is a row of spikes set into the road surface. Vehicles driving in the permitted direction press the spikes down and pass normally, while vehicles travelling the wrong way meet raised spikes that can damage tyres. Some systems are motorised so spikes can be raised or lowered on command. Tyre killers address the risk of vehicles forcing entry through exits or bypassing checkpoints. They are typically used at high-security sites alongside barriers and guarded gates.
